Tomorrow, April 22, is a national holiday in Iceland. Patice will be closed and the Patice team will be out, safely and socially distantly, celebrating the first day of summer.

In Iceland it is traditional to celebrate the First Day of Summer in late April every year. It has been celebrated since the Age of Settlement (c. 870-930) in accordance with the old Icelandic calendar Misseristalið. In it, the year is divided in to only two seasons, winter and summer, as people in that age counted their age in winters, not years. The calendar even survived the Christianization of the Island in the year 1000 and has lived on to this day.

Happy summer!
